Karl Stellwag von Carion

Stellwag Carl von Carion (also: Karl Stellwag of Carion; born January 28, 1823 in Upper Langendorf near Moravian Town, † November 21, 1904 in Vienna ) was an Austrian ophthalmologist.

Stellwag of Carion studied medicine in Prague and Vienna, where he received his doctorate in 1847 for Dr. med. In 1857 he became an associate in 1873 and a full professor of ophthalmology at the University of Vienna. At the same time he taught at the Josephinum.

In 1869 he described the character named after him Stellwag, decreased eye blink in the endocrine ophthalmopathy in the context of Graves' disease.
