Karl Theodor Fahr

Karl Theodor Fahr ( born October 3, 1877 in Pirmasens, † October 29, 1945 in Hamburg ) was a German pathologist.

Life

After visiting the Progymnasium Pirmasens driving educated at the universities of Giessen, Munich, Berlin and Kiel medicine. In 1903 he received his doctorate in Giessen. In 1919 he was appointed associate professor in 1924 appointed professor of pathology in Hamburg. In the "seizure of power " of the Nazis, he was on 11 November 1933, the signatories of the commitment of the professors at German universities and colleges to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi state.

Driving ended his life on October 29, 1945 by suicide. District of Hamburg, Long Horn is named after him since 1961 a road.

Services

From 1909 to 1915 he worked with Franz Volhard in Mannheim on a classification of diseases of the kidney. In the work The Bright's kidney disease: clinical, pathology and Atlas (1914 ) they distinguish between degenerative ( nephrosis ), inflammatory ( nephritis) and arteriosclerotic ( sclerosis ) kidney disease. In terms of nephrosclerosis a good and a malignant form was distinguished.

In 1923 Theodor Fahr expressed at a meeting of the German Pathological Society as one of the first scientists to assume that between smoking and lung cancer which there is a link:

"As a stimulus for the emergence of Bronchialkrebses comes m. E. only a harmful chronic effects into account, hardly a poisoning with war gases, much more likely to inhale cigarette smoking, which has certainly increased. "
