Enhuber died after prolonged suffering as a result of the sting of a poisonous fly July 6, 1867.

Reception

Enhuber understood the folk life admirably to describe and knew his pictures to give a certain amount of good nature and innocence, which often passes into waggish humor. He said carefully, but never embarrassing, and its color was glorious when they lacked even the strength.
