Karoi

Kaori also Urungwe or Hurungwe, is a town with 26,000 inhabitants ( 2006) on the road Chinhoyi - Chirundu on the Zambezi River and is 1,000 m high in the Mashonaland West province in Zimbabwe. It is the capital of the district of the same name.

In Kaori there are primary and secondary schools ( Kaori Primary School, Rydings School and Magunje High School ), a hospital, shops and local small industry. The schools are up to the Zambezi the only ones. The football club Karoi United play in the league of Zimbabwe.

The surrounding area of Kaori is indeed arid, but is considered fertile and needs to be watered. There are cultivated wheat, corn, tobacco and soybeans. The ownership and the problems are, however, similar serious as in Gokwe (see web link), as the country of the expropriated white big farmers was mostly handed over to senior government officials.

In ten pounds in five locations in the Karoi district semi-precious stones are mined: Alluaudite, Arrojadit, beryl, ( aquamarine, emerald, Goshenite, Heliodor ), cassiterite, elbaite, Euclase, kaolinite, kyanite, mica, topaz, Uvit, Werdingit, Zimbabweit.
