Karol Dobiaš ( born December 18, 1947 in Handlová ) is a former Slovak football player and football coach.

Playing career

Karol Dobiaš played in his youth for Baník Handlová. In 1965 he moved to Spartak Trnava, with whom he Czechoslovak Cup winner was five times Czechoslovakian champion and three times. The defender was in 1970 and in 1971 was elected Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year. In 1977 he moved to Bohemians Prague. In the Czechoslovak league Dobiaš completed 344 games in which he scored 20 goals. In 1980 he was allowed to move abroad and went to the Belgian club KSC Lokeren. His career ended in 1984 with FC Heirnis Ghent.

National

Dobiaš Karol debuted in the Czechoslovak national team on May 3, 1967. He took part in the World Championship 1970 in Mexico, 1976 he was European champion. In Belgrade finale against the Federal Republic of Germany, he scored the intermediate 2-0. Overall Dobiaš played 67 times in the dress of Czechoslovakia, for the last time on 26 March 1980, he scored five goals. Five times he led the team as captain on the field.

Coaching career

His coaching career began in 1984 as Karol Dobiaš youth coach at Bohemians Prague. 1988/89 he coached the SK Hradec Králové, but was released after the 14th game day. In September 1990 he took Zbrojovka Brno ( Brno later BOBY ). The team got off and managed with Dobiaš its chances of promotion. After 23 matchday of the 1992/93 season he was released. 1993/94 he was a coach at Sparta Prague, with whom he became Czech champion. After just two games in 1994/95, he was released again.

1995/96 trained Dobiaš briefly the smaller Prague SK Sparta Krc. Subsequently, he has worked as a scout for Sparta Prague. 2003/ 04 he became an assistant coach at Bohemians Prague, but in January 2004, the club ended the collaboration.

Karol Dobiaš lives in the Czech Republic and has besides the Slovak and the Czech citizenship. Among his players times he fell on by long hair and fashionable extravagance and was a teen idol. About Pavel Nedvěd he reportedly said in 1993: "From the never will be something that he can be happy, when he is sitting at Sparta Prague on the bench ."
