Karsten Friedrich Hoppenstedt
Karsten Friedrich Hoppenstedt ( born April 6, 1937 in Osnabrück ) is a German politician ( CDU). He was from 1989 to 1999 and again from 2004 to 2009 Member of the European Parliament.
Life and career
Hoppenstedt holds a degree in veterinary medicine in Giessen, Vienna and Hanover, from which he graduated in 1964 with the granting of the license to practice. In 1965 his Doctorate in medicine vet at the Veterinary School of Hannover with the thesis " Comparative studies for the diagnosis of avian tuberculosis using the Frischblutschnellagglutination and Tuberkulinkehllappenprobe in the catchment area of the Animal Health Office Hanover. With special consideration of the level of contamination with tuberculosis ". Hoppenstedt was from 1964 to 1989 worked as a practicing veterinarian.
From 1999 to 2004 he was a representative of WestLB in Brussels.
Karsten Hoppenstedt is married and has four children.
Member of Parliament
Hoppenstedt was the first time from 1989 to 1999 at the European Parliament. During this time he was there media spokesman of the EPP Group and coordinator of the EPP Group in the Subcommittee currency.
From 2004 to 2009 he was again a member of the European Parliament. Hoppenstedt was there municipal policy spokesman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.
Public offices
Hoppenstedt was from 1974 to 2005 Mayor of the Town of Castle Wedel and 1981-1989 District Administrator of Hanover.
Social offices
From 1987 to 1992 Hoppenstedt served as vice chairman of the board of county Sparkasse Hannover and 1986-1992 Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Broadcasting Council of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR ). From 1992 to 1993 he also served on the program committee of the European culture channel ARTE.
Since 1997 Hoppenstedt member of the board of the Lower Saxony Cities and Municipalities since 2001 and also Deputy Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the German Association of Cities and Municipalities.
