Käru Parish

Käru ( German: Kerro ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian county Rapla with an area of ​​214.91 km ². It has 676 inhabitants (1 January 2009).

The village was first mentioned in 1435. In addition to the main town Käru for rural community includes the villages Jõeküla, Kullimaa, Kõdu, Kädva, Kändliku, Lauri, Lungu and Sonni.

The original manor house of Käru Built in 1632, a new manor in the early 19th century. There, since 1857 lived Karl von Ditmar ( 1822-1892 ), one of the most important explorer of Kamchatka. The manor house was burned down during the Russian Revolution, on 17 December 1905 by insurgents. The later rebuilt building is now used as a school.
