Rapla Parish

Rapla ( German Rappel; Estonian Rapla vald ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian county Rapla with an area of ​​243.3 km ². The rural community Rapla has 9652 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2008).

History

Rapla was first mentioned in 1241 as Rapala records in Liber Census Daniæ. The municipality was established as an administrative unit in 1891 to life.

On the Baltic German manor of Hagudi ( German Hakude ) the later explorers, Adam Johann von Krusenstern was born in 1770. At a lime tree that should come from the time of his birth, 1970, a memorial plaque was attached to him.

The village Kuusiku ( German Saage ) applies in the upper reaches of the river Vigala in winter as the coldest place in Estonia. Built in 1939, the Red Army there a military airfield. During the Second World War came in August 1941 when Kuusiku to a lossy battle with the advancing Wehrmacht. A new airport in the Soviet armed forces was taken in the 1950s in operation which is used for civilian purposes today.
