Kasari River
The river Kasari (Estonian Kasari Jõgi ) is the largest river in Western Estonia. Its length is 112 km.
Description
The river rises near the village of Kohila in a circle Rapla. It empties into the Bay of Matsalu in Lääne. Particularly in the upper reaches of the river occurs often on the shore.
Its average discharge is 23 to 28 m³ / sec, its catchment area 3210 km ². The river is known for its abundance of fish (especially pike ).
Name
The name of the river ( and the same Guts Kasari ) is derived from Kasari ( Kasjan ) Baranoff from († 1648). Baranoff was a Tatar army leader who had gone over to the Swedish troops. King John III. 1590 gave him the lands of the environment.
Bridge
Below the village Martna a 308 m long reinforced concrete bridge was built in 1904, which was the longest in the world at its inauguration.
