The Kashima Soccer Stadium (Japanese茨城 県 立 カシマ サッカー スタジアム, Ibaraki Kashima kenritsu Sokka Sutajiamu, dt "Football Stadium Kashima Ibaraki Prefecture " ) is a football stadium in the Japanese city of Kashima in Ibaraki Prefecture.

History

You need to participate in the J. League, a suitable venue, so it was decided in 1991 to build a new stadium and in March 1993 the construction was completed. At that time it had about 15,000 seats and was the first stadium in Japan that was built exclusively for football.

The first game took place on 4 May 1993 between Kashima Antlers and Fluminense Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. For the FIFA World Cup 2002, the stadium was expanded. In May 2001, the arena was then completed. The construction costs amounted to 213 million euros. Currently, it offers 42,300 spectators.

The stadium is the home of the Japanese football association and record champions Kashima Antlers, who play their home games in the J. League here.
