Kate Greenaway

Kate Greenaway ( Catherine Greenaway ) ( born March 17, 1846 in London, † November 6, 1901 in Hampstead ) was an English watercolor painter and illustrator of children's books.

Kate Greenaway was a daughter of the draftsman and printmaker John Greenaway and studied at the Slade School of Art for her book Under the Window (1878 ) new techniques of photolithography were used to print their watercolors. Because of their creativity, she was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. Kate Greenaway's typical designs were often copied later for the manufacture of porcelain, tile, wallpaper and other artefacts.

In her honor, is awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1955.
