Kateřina Novotná

Kateřina Novotná ( born August 12, 1984 in Benátky nad Jizerou ) is a Czech Shorttrackerin.

Novotnas international career began in early 2000, when she went to the start at the Junior World Championships and the European Championships. Although they never reached a semi-final at two major events, she was nominated by the Czech Association for the short track speed skating World Cup in Heerenveen, where she also not sent over via the feed. In the 2000 /01 season it was only used in a World Cup, the result was as weak as the previous race. Only at the Junior World Championship 2001 she managed more than 1500 meters of the semi-finals.

In October 2001, Novotná came when only Czech Shorttrackerin, qualifying for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. After she had again missed a final run at the Junior World Championships, she managed at the Olympic short track speed skating competitions over 1500 meter race in the semifinals. The international appearances in 2003 were limited to the three major events Junior World Championship, European Championship and Senior World Championships and a World Cup appearance. You never succeeded in gaining at a finale.

Only at the Junior World Championship 2004 Novotná could reach the final of the 500 meters and there even win silver. With another good performance over the other routes they also qualified for the Super Final of the best overall night, which she finished in sixth. Also at the European Championships she won a bronze medal over 500 meters. In addition, they started for the first time in a 3000m relay team with which they, however, was eliminated in the flow. This was because Novotná is the only Czech Shorttrackerin with most major events. At the World Championships and the World Cup it was still not made ​​the finals.

The 2004/05 season started for them in the World Cup again with little success, even at the European Championships did not defend them their medal. In the Winter Universiade this year she managed over 3000 meters, although the finals, where they but did not reach the goal. Only in the last World Cup race of the season, she moved first to the final and missed in fourth over 1500 meters the podium just barely. In the World Cup 2005/ 06 Novotná started only in the third race, but once again they did not reach the final. Even with the major events it initially looked not good for them after they did not reach a final at the short track speed skating championship in 2006. Only at the Olympic Games was able to convince and sixth over 500 meters.

The World Cup season 2006/ 07 started Novotná the same with a third place over 1500 meters at the first World Cup. Since its remaining results were very constant over this distance, she was in the 1500 m World Cup fourth overall. Also in the other disciplines you get more good results. At the European Championships she narrowly missed a medal in the 1500 meters in fourth overall and was ninth. At the World Championships she reached again but not final. The 2007/08 season was unsuccessful for Novotná in the World Cup, but they won a bronze medal over 1500 meters at the European Championships 2008.
