Katharine Drexel

Katherine Mary Drexel (* November 26, 1858 in Philadelphia, USA, † March 3, 1955 in Cornwell Heights, United States) was an American nun. In the Catholic Church it is revered as a saint. Your Memorial Day in the liturgy is the 3rd of March.

Katherine, daughter of a wealthy banker, joined in 1889 as a postulant with the Sisters of Charity of Pittsburgh one. In 1891 she founded a new congregation, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, the evangelization of Native Americans and African Americans dedicated to. As of 1894, Sr. Catherine, from Santa Fe, New Mexico, in many cities schools. The most famous creation is the Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Sr. Katherine has been repeatedly confirmed as Superior General of the Sisters of the Holy Sacrament. Until her death she had founded about sixty-two schools and a university.

Sr. Katharine was canonized by Pope John Paul II beatified in 1988 and 2000.
