Katherine Helmond

Katherine Marie Helmond ( born July 5, 1928 in Galveston, Texas) is an American actress.

Her mother, Thelma Malone, was of Irish descent. Helmond studied at Bob Jones University in Greenville (South Carolina).

Helmond was ( The Great God Brown) by Eugene O'Neill nominated in 1973 for her supporting role in the play The Great God Brown for a Tony Award. From 1977 to 1981 she played the lead role of Jessica Tate on the television series Soap, for which she was awarded in 1981 with a Golden Globe Award. She was also nominated in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981 for an Emmy Award.

From 1984 to 1992 she played in the television series Who 's the Boss? a larger supporting role as Angela Bowers mother. For this role she was nominated for an Emmy Award for " Best Supporting Actress " in the years 1988 and 1989. In 1986 she was nominated for the role for a Golden Globe Award, which she won in 1989. In the film comedy Overboard - A goldfish falls into the water, she joined in 1987 alongside Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in a larger role. For her role in the film Fantastic Voyage into the hereafter in 1988 she was nominated for a Saturn Award. In the TV movie lie to me not she played a starring role in 1991.

Helmond married in 1957 George N. Martin. After her divorce from Martin married Helmond 1962 David Christian, with whom she still lives today. Both marriages were childless.
