Katherine R. Whitmore

Katherine R. Whitmore (* 1897 in Kansas, † 1982) was an American Romance languages ​​and Hispanistin.

Life and work

Katherine Prue Reding studied Spanish at the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. She taught in Richmond (Virginia) and in 1930 at Smith College in Northampton (Massachusetts ). There she married her colleagues Brewer Whitmore.

Became famous for her relationship with Pedro Salinas, whom she met in the summer of 1932 in Madrid, saw again there in the academic year 1934-1935, the volumes of poetry La voz a ti debida (1934 ), Razon de amor (1936) and Largo lamento (1939 ) to they relate and whose love letters addressed to them were published in 2002.
