Kathleen Ferrier (politician)

Kathleen Gertrud Ferrier ( born March 8, 1957 in Paramaribo, Suriname ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ) and the daughter of the governor and first president of Suriname Johan Henri Eliza Ferrier.

Life

Kathleen Ferrier, the younger half-sister of writer Cynthia McLeod, first went in Paramaribo, later in The Hague at school. After that, she studied literature and development assistance to the State University of Leiden. From 1981 to 1984 she flew as a stewardess with the Dutch airline KLM. From 1984 to 1991 she worked as an aid worker in Chile and then to 1994 in São Paulo, Brazil.

After returning to the Netherlands she turned to politics and was concerned with refugees and emigrants problems of immigrants mainly from Latin America. Through their commitment and dedication she is now active in many organizations in a responsible position, as:

  • Spokeswoman for the Habitat Platform Suriname
  • Spokesperson of the Jury Project Voor Ask van migrants
  • Member of the Council Chamber MDO of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands
  • Vice - Chairman of the CDA
  • Member of CMV (Black migrant Vluchtelingenvrouwen s )

On 23 May 2002 Ferrier was deputy for the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ) in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. Since March 2003, Ferrier is also deputy chairman of the Committee ( Kamercommissie ) for Social and Labor Affairs of the Parliament.

She is married to the pastor Tjeerd de Boer and has two children.
