Kathy Burke

Kathy Burke ( born June 13, 1964 in London; native Katherine Lucy Bridget Burke) is a British actress.

Life and achievements

Kathy Burke was almost a year old when her mother died of cancer. She has two older brothers. As her father, of Irish descent, suffered from alcohol problems and tended to violence, Burke lived temporarily in an orphanage. She attended at the age of 16 years offered free acting classes at the Anna Scher School in Islington, today as the nonprofit Young Actors Theatre known. Until her 26th birthday suffered Burke, by his own admission, even under alcohol problems.

Burke made ​​his debut in 1981 in the television series Educating Marmalade. In the film drama Scrubbers (1983 ) she played one of the major roles. In the film drama Dancing at Lughnasa (1998) Burke was seen at the side of Meryl Streep as its sister film. For this role she was nominated for a Golden Satellite Award in 1999. In the historical drama Elizabeth (1998) with Cate Blanchett in the title role she portrayed terminally ill Mary Tudor.

In the years 1999 to 2001 Burke appeared in the television series Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, and was nominated in 2001 and 2002 for the BAFTA TV Award. In 1999 and 2000 she was nominated for the British Comedy Award, which she received in 2002. In 2002, she also took on this role, contrary to the UK's National Television Award. The title role of Perry in the musical comedy Kevin and Perry Go Large (2000) earned her a nomination for the 2001 Empire Award.

Burke wrote the play Mr Thomas, which was performed under her direction, with Ray Winstone in the title role in Theatre Old Red Lion. She lives in London.
