Katif (moshav)

Katif (Hebrew קטיף ) was a Jewish settlement in Gush Katif ( " Katif block " ) in Gaza. She lay about a kilometer north of the Palestinian refugee camp Dir al - Balah.

Katif was in 1973 initially as a paramilitary Nahal settlement ( No'ar Chalutzi Lochem - Fighting Pioneer Youth ) was founded in 1977 and handed over to civilians. This Katif was the first Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip. In 2005, there were about 70 families or 330 people in Katif, including 220 children. The religious elementary school and the high school of the settlement also served the other settlements in the region, which have now been resolved.

As part of the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip Katif and the other 20 Jewish military settlements in Gaza were evacuated in August 2005. In protest against the eviction by the Israeli army about 80 families had the entrance to their settlement on Räumungstag (August 21 ) lit by stuffing tires and garbage containers on fire.
