Katō Tomosaburō

Katō Tomosaburō (Japanese加藤 友 三郎; born April 1, 1861 ( traditionally: Bunkyū 1.2.22 ) in Hiroshima, † August 24, 1923 ) was a Japanese politician and the 21st Prime Minister of Japan on June 12, 1922 to August 24, 1923.

He attended the Naval Academy and graduated in the seventh year. In the Russo- Japanese War, he served as Chief of Staff of the United fleet alongside Admiral Tōgō Heihachiro on the battleship Mikasa and helped Japan to victory over the Russians in the Battle of Tsushima to lead.

In 1915 he was appointed Admiral and served as Navy Minister in the cabinet of Okuma Shigenobu, Terauchi Masatake, Hara Takashi, and Takahashi Korekiyo. Under Hara and Takahashi, he was Vertereter of Japan to the Washington Naval Conference. When he returned to Japan, he was named in recognition of his performance at the conference as prime minister.

A short time later, he fell ill with cancer and died after a year of its consequences. A day before his death, he was appointed Commodore ( gensui ) and posthumously to the Viscount ( shishaku ) appointed. He was also awarded the Medal posthumously chrysanthemums.
