Katrin Saks

Katrin Saks ( born November 29, 1956 in Tallinn) is an Estonian politician. It's 2006 Member of the European Parliament since October.

Training

Katrin Saks graduated in 1975 from high school in Tallinn. By 1981, she studied journalism at the University of Tartu. From 1977 to 1993 she worked as an editor and from 1993 to 1997 as a Program Director at the Estonian Television ( Eesti Televisioon ). In 1993 she graduated next to the course of study International Relations at the Estonian School of Diplomacy.

Politician

1998 Katrin Saks went into politics and joined the party Mõõdukad, which has been renamed the Social Democratic Party of Estonia ( Eesti Sotsiaaldemokraatlik Erakond ) 2004. From 1999 to 2002 Katrin Saks was primarily responsible for the integration of the Russian-speaking minority in Estonia as population minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mart Laar.

After Saks from 2003 to 2006 Member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). In October 2006, she moved as a successor to the selected Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves after as a member of the European Parliament.

Private life

Katrin Saks is married and has a daughter and a son.
