Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics

The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics ( KITP ) is an institute of the University of California, Santa Barbara ( UCSB ).

It is one of the most famous institutes for Theoretical Physics around the world, especially in the field of high energy physics. It was founded in 1979 by Nobel laureate Walter Kohn. It is managed at the time (2005) by David Gross (Nobel Prize 2004).

Beginning of the new millennium was the institute, which was until then known only as the Physics Institute of the UCSB or as ITP ( Institute for Theoretical Physics ), according to the Norwegian / U.S. physicist and businessman Fred Kavli, in recognition of his generous donations to the UCSB named.
