Kazimierz Brodziński

Kazimierz Brodziński ( [ bro'dzjinjski ]; born March 8, 1791 in Królówka, Lesser Poland, † October 10, 1835 in Dresden) was a Polish poet and translator.

Life

Kazimierz Brodziński is considered a precursor of Polish Romanticism. His work was influenced by Johann Gottfried Herder. In the then politically affiliated with Lithuania Poland folklore collectors Kazimierz Brodziński had published in 1820 Polish versions of Lithuanian folk songs from Herder's collection; he came to be called even the " Polish Herder ". He translated Goethe in the Polish language. 1820 was his peasant epic " Wieslaw ".

Brodziński was laid to rest in a double tomb with his also living in exile Saxon compatriot General Stanisław Skarbek of - Woyczyński on the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden.
