Kees van der Staaij

Gerrit Cornelis ( Kees ) van der Staaij ( born September 12, 1968 in Vlaardingen ) is a Dutch politician. He is a member of the State Professional Gereformeerde Partij ( SGP ).

Van der Staaij studied at Leiden University, specializing in constitutional law and administrative law. Always been interested in politics, he joined in 1986 at the SGP.

After he had performed a number of tasks before the Raad van State, he was elected to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament in 1998 and has since May 19, 1998 MPs. Since 27 March 2010, he is a party leader and since 10 May 2010, Chairman, in both cases, as the successor of Bas van der Vlies. He was thus the leading candidate of the SGP in the Dutch general election of 2010.

Kees van der Staaij since September 1994 married to Marlies van Ree and has two adopted children. He is a member of Altreformierten communities in the Netherlands and lives in Benthuizen.
