Keith Holmes (boxer)

Keith Pickett Holmes ( born March 30, 1969 in Washington, DC ) is a retired, American professional boxer and former WBC champion at middleweight.

On September 23, 1994, he defeated his compatriot Andrew Council on points and thus became U.S. champion in the light middleweight division. Holmes had previously won 23 of his 24 professional fights, including 15 by KO

On March 16, 1996, he was WBC world middleweight champion after his compatriot Quincy Taylor by KO defeated in round 9 had. After two successful title defenses against Richie Woodhall and Paul Vaden, he lost his world title only on 5 December 1997 against the French Hacine Cherifi by points defeat over 12 rounds. In a rematch on April 24, 1999, Holmes was able, however, to regain the world title by a knockout win in round 7 and successfully defending him against Andrew Council and Robert McCracken. On 14 April 2001, he lost the title again, this time to a points defeat over 12 rounds against Bernard Hopkins.
