Kemani Tatyos Ekserciyan

Kemani Tatyos Efendi ( Tatyos Enkserciyan, Tateos Eñserciyan, Armenian Թադեոս Էքսերճյան; * 1855 in Istanbul, † March 16, 1913 ibid ) was an Ottoman composer, qanun and violin virtuoso.

The son of the Armenian Church singer Manokyan Enkserciyan went to the school in the teaching of a locksmith and a silversmith. From an uncle he learned the Qanunspiel, later he had violin lessons with Kemani Sebuh and studied music and singing at Civan Aga and Aga Asdik.

He was an important instrumental virtuoso, composer and poet primarily of Fasil music on the field. He gave numerous concerts in the Casino Pirinçci in Galata with musicians like Karakaş, Ovakim and Şemsi and worked with Ahmed Rasim Bey, the brothers Civan and Andon, Şevki Bey, Kemençeci Vasilaki and Cemil Bey Tanburi.

In his last years he was an alcoholic and died on March 16, 1913 from liver cirrhosis.

From Tatyos about sixty compositions have survived, which form a basis of the development of modern Turkish music. He was also the teacher of musicians such as Arsak Çömlekçiyan, Münir Mazhar Kamsoy, Nasibin Yürü Mehmet Mustafa Sunar and Abdulkadir Tore.
