Kempinski Palace Portorož

The Kempinski Palace Hotel in Portorož Slovenian seaside resort is a five star luxury hotel of the Kempinski hotel group. Built in 1910 the house was when it opened one of the largest and most magnificent hotels in the upper Adriatic.

History

In 1879, a doctor Piran began with the treatment of rheumatism using the effective healing salt brine deposits in Portoroz. Because of the climatic conditions of the place and the increasing number of cures Portorož on June 25, 1897 by kk Ministry of Interior declared a cursor and seaside resort. Portorož developed in those days, Grado and Opatija one of the most elegant seaside resort on the Austrian Riviera. 1908, the Viennese architect Johann Eustacchio was commissioned with the planning of the Palace Hotel, which was officially opened on 20 August 1910. The Designed in the style of Historicism architecture resorted to various stylistic elements of the Renaissance and the Vienna Secession, and the hotel was aligned in its entire facilities to meet the needs of high society of the Danube monarchy. In addition to cultural and sporting events throughout 1913 in the Villa San Lorenzo opened Casino Portorož a special attraction at the resort guests.

In the interwar period the tourism stagnated in Portoroz, and again only during the 1960s were celebrities from politics and the film industry at the hotel guest.

During the 1970s, the hotel was suffering from a bad management of the Yugoslav local government, the circumcised among others direct access to the sea. In 1980 the hotel was closed, and three years later the main building and the hotel's facilities were placed under monument protection. After a brief attempt to revive the operation of the hotel, it was finally closed in 1990.

After Slovenia's independence in 1994, the hotel was in the possession of the municipality of Piran above. In May 2003, a 99 - year lease contract with the Slovenian Istrabenz group of Koper was signed up last renovated in 2008 the hotel for around 70 million euros and a contract was received by the Kempinski Group, to operate the hotel for at least 20 years. During the renovation of the main building was up to the listed facade completely gutted, expanded and re-opened on 18 October 2008.

Equipment

In 2008, the renovated Grand Hotel has 181 rooms and 16 suites, including a 230 square meter presidential suite. To the main building next to restaurants and theaters including the 300 m² " Crystal Hall ", reminiscent of the atmosphere of the Belle Époque.
