History

In 1969, the city of Kempten tried with representatives of the local economy to the creation of an Alpine University and from 1972 to a technical college. In 1975 the Bavarian Council of Ministers adopted a Fachhochschule Kempten. Two years later, the Bavarian Parliament passed a law establishing the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten; Target time were 1,000 students.

On 2 October 1978, the first semester began in rented buildings in the Bahnhofstrasse in business administration course. The opening ceremony took place at the Prince's Hall of Fürstäbtlichen residence on October 4, 1978 with the Bavarian Minister of Culture Hans Maier instead.

For the realization of the first school buildings, a competition was held, in which the architectural firm Heid / Thumann / Frese from Fürth won first place.

For lack of space, the college hired next year other rooms in the so-called 4P House at Crown Street in the old town. 1984 students demonstrated for its own cafeteria, next year ran the student union a canteen close to the high school grounds.

The steady increase of students showed ongoing expansion needs for teaching buildings. 1997 Extension to the Department of Economics was commissioned in 1998, land was purchased near the campus. The study computer science course was introduced in 2000. The following year sparked the study Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Electrical Engineering from the previous course.

The studies in business administration, tourism and computer science have been converted in the same year to the bachelor's degree, as part of the Bavarian university expansion a stage of 1254 new university places were assured of Kempten. The V. construction phase followed a short time later on the acquired land in 1998.

It was founded on 1 May 2011, originally as the Institute for Applied Battery Research ( IABF ).

European Competence Center for bells

A previous project on material loads ran at the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability. In October 2005, started at the University in cooperation with the Advisory Committee for the German bells beings, eight bells founders and the Universities of Padua and Ljubljana, the co-financed by the European Commission project PROBELL. The goal was the scientific determination of the parameters influencing the increased and premature damage of bells and the sound quality. Here, an existing sound laboratory was used, which was originally created to test tractors on their noise. It was for 20 bells cast that were charged with different mallets to destruction. Based on the findings, methods were developed to evaluate existing bells on possible risks or optimal to ring new bells, through the design of yoke, lace and suspension as well as the choice of Läutparameter. Based on the data, computer simulations have been developed with which one can test the effects of parameter changes. From 21 to 23 July 2008, the final meeting of the project took place at the University of Kempten. Even then, you expressed a desire to establish a permanent facility and develop the findings in order to obtain valuable heritage better. It was possible to raise additional funding and project funding.

In the first symposium PROBELL on 5 and 6 May 2009, the European center of excellence for bells was - PROBELL officially established. Scientific Director is Andreas Rupp. The tasks are

  • In support of the project partners in the implementation of new processes,
  • The scientific treatment of open issues for the maintenance of bells,
  • The assessment of Läutesituation of bells in the tower,
  • The assessment of damage to bells,
  • The detection of the " musical fingerprint " culturally and historically significant bells, by which incipient damage can be detected in the future, so early to take appropriate countermeasures,
  • The investigation foundry technical issues,
  • The investigation on repair work,
  • Advising communities and experts with problems and damage, and
  • The experiences of the diverse professionals
