Ken Monkou

Kenneth Monkou ( born November 29, 1964 in Nickerie ) is a retired Dutch football player with roots in Suriname.

Life and career

The native South Americans came in 1985 to Feyenoord, where to Chelsea joined the center-back after 43 games and two goals in 1989 to England. The transfer fee for Monkou was the equivalent of approximately € 147,000. He was elected as the first player with black skin the best Chelsea player of the year. After the Monkou managed so far only three more black players. In 1992 he moved further within England to Southampton FC for € corresponding to about 1.1 million. After seven years of relatively unsuccessful in Southampton he had from 1999 to 2000 his career at Huddersfield Town finish.
