Kenneth Cooper Alexander

Kenneth Cooper Alexander ( born October 17, 1966 in Norfolk, Virginia ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). Since 2012 he is a senator in the Senate of Virginia, representing the 5th district there.

Life

Alexander grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He attended the John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia, where he received an associate degree. He then studied at Old Dominion University, where he received a Bachelor of Science (BS) and continued his studies at Norwich University, at which he received a Master of Arts ( MA).

Alexander works as a mortician. The family-owned company Metropolitan Funeral Service has two locations, one in Norfolk and one in Portsmouth, Virginia.

In August 2002, Alexander was elected in a by-election, renewing the vacant seat of Jerrauld Jones, in the House of Representatives from Virginia and took there the 89th district. In the years 2009 and 2011 was re-elected. As the Democratic Senator Yvonne B. Miller died in July 2012, he successfully ran for the 4 September 2012 will take place so that a by-election and moved to the Senate of Virginia. Alexander's vacant seat in the House of Representatives from Virginia in turn was neubesetzt through a by-election on December 18, 2012. His party colleague Daun Hester was able to achieve the mandate.

Before his political career he was active in various community committees for his hometown. Alexander is married and has two sons.
