Kenneth Frampton

Kenneth Frampton ( born 1930 in Woking, Surrey ) is a British- American architect, architectural historian and author. Frampton is a professor of architecture at Columbia University, New York.

Life

From 1950-1956, Kenneth Frampton was trained at the Architectural Association in London. After two years in the British Army, he spent a year traveling to Israel. He then worked in a London architectural firm, then three years as editor of the magazine Architectural Design. In 1965 he traveled to the United States.

From 1964-1972 he taught at Princeton University from 1972-74 at Columbia University from 1974 to 1977 at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1977 he returned to Columbia University.

He also taught at the ETH Zurich, the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam, the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio.
