Kenny Sargent

Kenneth "Kenny" Sargent (* 1906, † 1969) was an American swing musicians (vocals, saxophone) and radio presenter, who was mainly known in the 1930s as a ballad singer in the Casa Loma Orchestra.

Life and work

Sargent worked in the late 1920s with Francis Craig and Blue Steele; He gained national recognition in 1931 through its membership in the Casa Loma Orchestra, in which he also played saxophone. As a band singer, he was at the beginning of the 1930s involved in the band's hits such as Under a Blanket of Blue (1933, # 6 ), Spellbound (1934, # 10), I Never Had a Chance (1934, # 6 ), Moonglow (1934, # 8) or The Champagne Waltz (1934, # 7). A first number 1 hit had Sargent and the Casa Loma Orchestra with the Rodgers & Hart song Blue Moon, who was eight weeks in the charts. In February 1935, she could build on this success, entitled When I Grow Too Old to Dream, which remained at # 1 for four weeks. Other successful titles in the 1930s were With All My Heart (1936, # 9) I've Got My Heart Set on You (1937, # 17) Sweet As a Song (1938, # 19), who later became jazz standard You Go to My Head (1938, # 9) and last Do not Get Around Much Anymore (1943, # 8).

In 1943 he left the Casa Loma Orchestra, to begin a career as a disc jockey. In the 1950s he was known for his broadcasts in the Dallas, Texas, which were broadcast by the radio stations KLIF and WRR.
