Kentmere Reservoir

The Kentmere Reservoir is a reservoir in the Lake District in Cumbria, England. The lake is situated on the southern slopes of the High Street and is fed by the water of the river Kent, which arises above it. Next inflows take place from the west side of Harter Fell.

History

The dam was built in 1845-1848, because the factory owners wanted on the River Kent to ensure a constant water supply to drive their machines. Construction was approved for it at the request of the manufacturers in 1845 by the Parliament.

Location

The dam is from the mountains of the so-called Kentmere Horseshoe ( Kentmere horseshoe ), which is formed from Yoke, Froswick, Ill Bell, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Harter Fell, Mardale Ill Bell and Kentmere Pike surrounded, and all of them clearly visible.

The river Kent flowing on the northern end into the lake and leaves it in the middle of the dam at the southern end.
