The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse ( KMSH ) is a close relative of the Rocky Mountain Horse and belongs to the North American Gaited Breeds. The country of origin of the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is Kentucky and near Appalachia in the USA.

Exterior

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is a compact, well -muscled horse. It should not be too heavy bone and show average substance. The topline is strong, the croup round. Forelegs, body and hindlegs should be nearly equal to each other in the proportion. Shoulder and upper arm show good angulation. The head and face should be attractive and appealing. The tail should be of course applied. All colors are permitted. The horses have a solid body color and can face the usual drawings ( not all white face ) and leg drawings have (no or minimal white drawing above knees or hocks ). The required Height is at least 144 cm for Class A, Class B 112-143 cm. Tampering with the hooves may not be made, only hooves with normal fittings are allowed.

Interior

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is willing to work and has a calm temperament. It is very friendly, very human oriented and strong nerves.

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is a very versatile horse. Because of his calm temperament, it has always been used by the whole family - as a driving force in the field, as children riding horse and carriage horse. By its very comfortable to sitting courses it offers itself as a riding horse for back- injured and elderly riders. Also in Western Riding ( from the work cavalry emerged ) is used. It is due to his descent from mountain horses, a sure-footed trail rides and is therefore suitable as a trail riding horse.

Gaits

  • Trail Walk: clear, uniform four-stroke step with 3 - and 2- leg supports, walking speed
  • Show Gait: Rack in higher pace than Trailwalk, 3.2 km / h to 8 km / h, 2 - and 1- leg supports
  • Pleasure Gait :: Even faster than the rack Show Gait, clear and uniform four stroke engine with 2 - and 1- leg supports at high speed (8 km / h faster)
  • Canter also rocking chair canter, accentuated slowly and gathered, clearly

Other gaits may occur individually, but are not allowed in tournaments. Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses (like all Mountain Horses ) Go to no amble time (even if the rack the same step picture shows ).
