Kenyir Lake

The Kenyir Lake ( Tasik Kenyir ) is a reservoir in Terengganu in northeast Malaysia, where the Kenyir is dammed to produce hydroelectric power. It is 55 km from Kuala Terengganu away. 1988, the dam was inaugurated in rockfill material from Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al- Muktafi Billah Shah. According to him also the hydroelectric plant Sultan Mahmud Power Station is named. Tourism and fishing should also be promoted by the project.

The lake is one of the largest in Southeast Asia. The water level and thus the size of the water surface fluctuates during the year. It is thus between about 260 and 380 km ². In March and April, the water level is at its highest in August, usually the lowest. The lake has 340 islands.
