Kepler-62

Kepler - 62 is a star of spectral K2V in the constellation Lyra, 1200 light-years away from Earth. It is a little cooler than the sun, and is orbited by at least five exoplanets.

Planetary system

On April 18, 2013 it was announced by researchers at the Kepler telescope, that the star has five planets. All were discovered by the transit method: Viewed from Earth, the planets pull once per orbit before their star over. This leads to a difference in brightness, which is measured by the Kepler telescope. The masses of the planets could not be measured, so only very rough upper limits are known.

The outermost two planets, Kepler - 62e and Kepler - 62f could be Earth-like, and have rock and liquid water on its surface. Some scientists even speculate that it could be so-called ocean planet.
