Keratolytic

A keratolytic (plural: keratolytic ) is a horn -dissolving agent. The term is derived from the skin substance keratin.

Keratolytics cosmetically and for the treatment of pathological keratinization disorders ( hyperkeratosis ) are used to force this way the keratolysis.

The following keratolytic agents are known:

  • Retinoids: acitretin, adapalene, tretinoin, isotretinoin, Motretinid, tazarotene.
  • Salicylic acid
  • Azelaic acid
  • Called alpha-hydroxy acids, also called " fruit acids ". These include lactic acid, mandelic acid and the glycolic acid.
  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Urea ( Urea )

Systemic come for the purpose of keratolysis only acitretin and isotretinoin for use.
