Kermajärvi

Kermajärvi (literally finn " kerma " for " cream ", " järvi " for " lake " ) is a lake in the Finnish municipality Heinavesi in the countryside Savo.

The lake has an area of 85.57 km ² and consists of an open water surface with many islands in the northwestern and southeastern part. There are several elongated narrow bays on both sides of the river, respectively. The maximum northwest-southeast extension of the lake is 29 km. The northwest-southeast orientation of the Kermajärvi is an indication of the moving glaciers during the last ice age.

The lake receives from the northern Varisvesi, which belongs to a lake Iso - Kalla, over the rapids Karvionkoski a large part of its tributary. About the rapids Kerma and Vihovuonteenkoski the water leaves the lake to the south Ruokovesi, which continue along the rapids of Pilppa flows to Haukivesi.

The Kermajärvi is the main lake of Heinäveden reitti - waterway. This is one of two connections between the iso- Kalla and L.Saimaa systems (the other forms of Leppävirran reitti waterway ).

At all rapids beginning of the 20th century were built navigation channels and named after the respective rapids.

The Kirchdorf Heinavesi is located on the south bank of the Kermajärvi.
