Kernen (mountain)

The cores with 513.2 m above sea level. NN is the highest mountain in the virgin forest in Baden- Württemberg, Germany, and also the highest point of the city of Fellbach.

Geographical location

The forest-rich nuclei located in the southwest of the Rems -Murr -Kreis in the far west of the virgin forest. It rises about 2.5 km south-southwest of Rommelshausen ( to nuclei in the Rems Valley ), just 2.5 km west-southwest of Stetten ( to nuclei in the Rems Valley ), 4.5 km north of Esslingen, about 2.5 km east-northeast of Stuttgart district Uhlbach and about 3.5 km south-east of Fellbach (each crow flies). On its summit perform several hiking trails.

Kernenturm

On the cores is the core tower, which was built in 1896 by the Swabian Albverein. From there, the view among others in the Stuttgart basin, the Swabian Alb and the Berglen can be enjoyed.

Name and history

The old name of the nuclei was " Beiburg ". Even today carry the tub on the north and south sides of this designation. The term core is likely to be derived from a lying east parcel "Gladly heap" ( like a javelin = Gern tapering ).

Numerous archaeological finds from the cores back to the Bronze Age and Celtic burial mounds show that the mountain was for the residents of significance since ancient times.

The resulting as part of local government reform in 1975 from the merger of the two communities in the Rems valley Stetten and Stetten Rommelshausen community - Rommelshausen was renamed kure time later using a name after the nearby competition in the immediate vicinity of the mountain in nuclei ( in the Rems valley ).
