Kerry Beagle

Ireland

Pocadan

56-66 cm

20-27 kg

The Kerry Beagle is one not recognized by the FCI Irish breed of dog that is, however, recognized nationally by the Irish Kennel Club.

Origin and History

The Kerry Beagle is possibly together with the Irish Wolfhound, the oldest breed of dog in Ireland. Presumably, this dog comes from southern Irish deer dogs, but was used in the pack for small game such as rabbits. With expatriates he came to America, where he contributed to the breeding of the local hounds, eg the American Foxhound and Black and Tan Coonhound. The name "Beagle" is misleading in so much else smaller dogs ( the Beagles ) are referred to. Therefore, the breed in Ireland is referred to in modern times as Pocadan.

Description

The Kerry Beagle is up to 66 cm tall and 27 kg. The Kerry Beagle has a short, tight -fitting hair and is found in the colors of tan - white, blue - white, black and tan and tri-color. His ears are hanging and medium in size.

Use

The Kerry Beagle is still used in Ireland as a hunting dog.
