Kerry O'Brien (athlete)

Kerry Dennis O'Brien ( born April 17, 1946 in Port Augusta, South Australia ) is a former Australian athlete and world record holder.

In 1966 Kerry O'Brien won silver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. In the 1968 Olympics he finished fourth. On July 4, 1970 O'Brien presented in Berlin with 8:22,0 a world record. Two and a half weeks later, he crashed in the final of the Commonwealth Games on the penultimate water jump. At the Olympics 1972 he lost in the flow in the last round a shoe, after which he gave up in front of the moat. From 1966 to 1973, he won seven Australian Championship title in steeplechase.

Kerry O'Brien ended his career in 1973. At a height of 1.80 m his competition weight was 70 kg.
