Ketu (mythology)

Ketu (Sanskrit केतु ketu m. ) In Hinduism is one of the personified planets ( Navagraha ). As the descending lunar node he is the ninth planet in Indian astronomy. Ketu is also the cause of meteors and comets. Like his brother, he Rahu is one of the demonic Daityas.

Myth

Ketu originated from the body of Rahu. This had mingled with the churning of the milk ocean among the gods and thus a drop of immortality potion Amrita drunk, so he was immortal, though Vishnu struck off his head.
