Kevin Conneff

Kevin Conneff ( born January 8, 1945 in Dublin) is the lead singer of the Irish band "The Chieftains ".

Before Conneff was hired in 1976 by Paddy Moloney as successor to the retiring bodhran player Peadar Mercier at the Chieftains, he belonged to an open group of musicians and singers who operated a traditional music club in Dublin, the Traditional Club at Slattery's. With Kevin, the Chieftains had simultaneously brought an outstanding singer in the boat, so that from then on almost all the albums released at least one aria from our own ranks. Kevin especially loves to sing in traditional sean - nós style, ie without musical accompaniment. Kevin first appeared on the album " Chieftains 6" on there but first as a bodhran player. His singing is first heard on " Chieftains 9".

Kevin Conneff has only recorded a solo album in all these years, namely

  • The week before Easter (1988 ) - partly live, partly in the studio ( with guest musicians )
