Key (lock)#Car key

Car keys are keys that are needed for closing, opening, and also as a key to start from motor vehicles, mostly as a turn key or designed new without key bit. They also serve to release the mechanical lock prescribed in Germany (usually as a steering wheel lock executed).

Modern car keys are radio key with which the doors can be both mechanically and remotely locked and unlocked. They spark in the ISM band in the range of 433 MHz. A precursor technology of radio keys were transmitted via infrared car keys. New cars today also a transponder (RFID ) chip is integrated in the key for which data are necessary to unlock an immobilizer.

With the car keys and seatback locks, glove compartment or similar storage options can be locked. Often the vehicle key is also used to turn on and turn the passenger airbag in order to fit child car seats or to open the fuel filler flap.
