Khajag Barsamian

Khajag Barsamian ( born July 4, 1951 in Arapgir, Turkey) is the current Archbishop of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in North America ( Catholicos of Etchmiadzin ).

Barsamian began his education at Holy Cross seminary of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople in Istanbul Opel. From 1967 to 1971 he continued his studies at the Theological Seminary of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem. In 1971 he was ordained a priest and his doctorate in 1973 Vardapet.

As a pastor Khajag Barsamian worked in Istanbul, the Middle East and the USA. In 1990 he was elected Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the USA and consecrated by Catholicos of Echmiadzin Vazken I. Bishop. In 1992 he received the title of archbishop.

Archbishop Barsamian is co-editor of a translation of the ancient Armenian Bible in the Neuarmenische
