Khandhar (Hindi: खंडहर, Kandahar; translated: Ruins ) is a Hindi film of the Bengali director Mrinal Sen from 1984 he was created from the history Telenapota Abishkar of Premendra Mitra. .

Action

Three friends from a big city to visit some ruins in a village where lived a mother with her daughter Jamini. She is waiting for the return of a distant cousin, who is to marry Jamini, but the man is already married and lives in Kolkata.

Out of pity, the photographer Subhash outputs for these admirers. The mother finds her inner peace and dies. With the departure of the three friends Jamini remains alone back to the ruins.

Background

Khandhar was Mrinal Sens second Hindi film. With the comparatively passive history, Sen finally turned on the political cinema of the 70s and the influence of the Indian People 's Theatre Association, as he was doing in West Bengal since the takeover by the Communists in 1977.

The film was later shown at the Toronto International Film Festival.
