Kharkiv Metro

The Metro Kharkov ( Ukrainian: Харківський метрополітен, Charkiwskyj metropolitans, Russian Харьковский метрополитен, Charkowskij Metropolitans ), the subway system is the second largest Ukrainian city was taken in 1975 in operation and consists of three lines that make up the typical Soviet secant.

History

As in many Soviet cities, the population rose Kharkiv after the Second World War by leaps and bounds. Thus the construction of a subway to enhanced accessibility of the city was now been considered. After the plans were concrete, construction began in 1968. Should a so-called "Duo " system to be built. That is, while in the outer areas of the city already existing railway suburban lines should be used, which were provided with a 3000 volts strong top line, in downtown Kharkiv the construction of new subway tunnel was provided in which a busbar with 825 volts are installed should.

But already in the first year of construction one changed the plans to a screeching subway, for which several reasons were: first, the conversion of the existing railway stations of the city was too expensive, and that is also a lowering of the platforms was planned. For the time used railway trains, the distance between the car and platform entry would again have been too big. Second, a complete redesign of the subway trains would be the result, and it appeared the city cheaper to connect to vehicle purchases by other Soviet cities, as thus also the production was financially more favorable to Kharkiv. This also is an incompatibility with other Soviet metro systems would have occurred, but what you wanted to avoid. All this led to a planning change.

As in Kharkiv, a very high water table exists, the stations were built not very deep, which is only twenty meters depths corresponded in practice. In other Soviet cities, however, the station and the line depths were up to seventy meters not uncommon.

Finally, it was after eight years of construction on August 23, 1975, the first line between " Холодна Гора " ( Cholodna Hora - " Cold Mountain ") and " Московський проспект " ( Moskowskyj Prospectus - "Moscow Prospectus") 10.6 km in length and eight stations are opened, the line itself was named " Холодногорська " ( Cholodnohorska ). A maintenance workshop has been equal miteröffnet, it is located at the former terminus Moskowskyj prospectus. Only a few years later, an extension to the southeast to the station " Пролетарська " ( Proletarska - " Proletarian " ) will be opened, where a four-track stabling was built. This line extension had five stations at 7.6 km. Since then, the line marked as red connects the " Ленінський район " ( Leninskiy Rajon - " Lenin District " ) about the center with the " Орджонікідзевський " ( Ordschonikidsewskyj Rajon - " Ordzhonikidze District "); in both districts there are large housing estates.

A few years after the opening of the first line already began the construction work for the next subway line Kharkiv, after all, is common in the Soviet Union Sekantensystem should be built, which is basically equivalent to a " metro backbone " for a city. So was 1984 a new section of " Барабашова " ( Barabaschowa ) for " Історичний музей " ( Istorytschnyj Musej - " Historical Museum " ) will be inaugurated, which was 7.7 km long and had five stops. At the station located in the center Istorytschnyj Musej A shift to the already existing line was possible. However, part of the station of Cholodnohorska line is called " Советська " ( Sowetska - "Soviet "). Understandably was also taken at the same time a track connection between the two lines in operation, but is relatively rarely used, since taken at the opening of the new line, which was given the name " Салтовська " ( Saltowska ), a new maintenance workshop at Barabaschowa station in operation been.

( Herojiw Prazi - "Hero of Labour" ) A year later, an extension of the Saltowska - line three stops to " Героїв Праці " was put into operation, which was 3.3 km long and had three additional stations. Thus, the line marked in blue in plans runs apart from one station completely in the " Kiev " Municipality ( Києвський район ).

1984 construction began for the third and last preliminary Kharkiv subway line. However, through the many events of the turn of years, including collapse of the Soviet Union and the proclamation of a sovereign Ukrainian state, the construction was delayed a little and so could the third Kharkiv metro line until May 6, 1995 between " Метробудівників " ( Metrobudiwnykiw - " subway builder " ) and " Наукова " ( Naukowa - "Science " ) to go into operation. This new range, which is 6.1 km long and has five new stations, not received as the other already existing lines, a maintenance workshop. The trains of the so-called Olexijiwska - line will have an operating track that connects the stations subway builders and Gagarin Prospect, performed, and then waited in the workshop of the red line. In 2004 was still a further 2.6 -km extension of the green line of " Naukowa " in the northwest to the station " 23 Серпня " (23 Serpnja - " August 23 " ) in operation; the number of stations increased from 26 to 28

Lines

Currently, Kharkiv has three subway lines, which together have 38 km with 29 stations. In 2001, 233.1 million passengers were transported. In rush hour, there is a 2-3 minute intervals, otherwise the trains run every 4-5 minutes.
