Khilji dynasty

The Khilji or Khalji dynasty (Persian سلطنت خلجی, DMG Sultanate Ḫilǧī ) was a dynasty of Turkish origin in the northern Indian Delhi Sultanate. She followed in 1290 on the Slave Dynasty, and was in 1320 replaced by the Tughluq dynasty.

Ikhtiar Uddin Muhammad bin Bakhtiar Khilji, one of the generals Qutb -ud -din Aybaks, captured in the late 12th century Bihar and Bengal. The Khiljis were vassals of the Slave Dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. Jalal ud din Firuz Khilji took over in 1290 the control of the Sultanate of Delhi. Until 1320 reigned three Khilji sultans. His nephew and son- Ala ud din Khilji is considered the most important ruler of the dynasty, as it was able to successfully beat back several Mongol invasions. Some descendants of the Khilji now live in Alexandria ( Virginia) in the United States.

Mahmud Khilji was since 1436 ruler of Malwa. His successors ruled Malwa to 1531, when it was conquered by the Sultan of Gujarat.
