Khorramabad

Khorramabad (Persian خرمآباد, DMG Ḫorramābād, also Chorram -Abad, English Khorramabad ) is a city in the Zagros Mountains in western Iran, about 50 kilometers south of Kermanshah and about 400 kilometers southwest of the capital, Tehran. It is the capital of the province of Lorestan and has about 360,000 inhabitants, mainly Luri speaking Lori and Shiite Muslims.

The city is mentioned with their modern names for the first time in the 14th century by Hamdallah Mustaufi in his book Nuzhat al - qulub. Near the town are the ruins of Diz -i Siyah, the former capital of the Atabegs Kleinluristan (ca. 1184-1597 ). After the Orientalists Minorski was located at the same place the Sassanid city Shapurkhwast.

Khorramabad is no known tourism center, but has a very nice cityscape with attractions such as the large derived from the medieval citadel Falak -ol - Aflak ( the heaven of heavens ), which now houses a museum.

Khorramabad is the regional industrial center, but this is limited to the processing of agricultural products.

The construction of a highway end of the 19th century, this remote region was more accessible. The travel time from the Persian Gulf to Tehran via Shiraz was 40 to 50 days and was reduced by the new road to 12 days.
