Kid Chocolate Best Cuban boxers of all time

Kid Chocolate, actually Eligio Sardinias Montalvo, ( born January 6, 1910 in Havana, † August 8, 1988 ) was a Cuban boxer.

Career

The unbeaten as an amateur Cubans ( 100-0 (86 KOs) ) began in 1927 in his home his pro career. From the following year, he boxed in New York and struck there in 1929, among other things Fidel LaBarba and Al Singer. He was a counter- boxer with a good punch in the right and good taker skills. After 55 wins and a draw he was defeated in August 1930 for the first time in his career against the nine pounds heavier Jackie "Kid" Berg and shortly thereafter in a rematch LaBarba.

On 15 July 1931 he was NBA champion in the super featherweight, but was defeated in November of the year in a lightweight title fight Tony Canzoneri on points. In 1932, he was widely recognized after the victory over Lew Feldman in October 1932 by the NYSAC Featherweight World Champion as well as a super featherweight world champion, after he had lost in July for a second time against mountain.

Towards the end of 1933, however, he had passed its zenith. In November, he was defeated by knockout in the second round again against Canzoneri, a month later, he lost his super featherweight title Frankie click. Finally, it also the featherweight title was stripped from the NYSAC in February 1934.

He punched even further to 1938, but without fighting for titles. At the end of his career, he returned to Cuba and played there his last five fights. After end of his career he was boxing coach in Cuba.

The Ring Magazine evaluates it as best Cuban professional boxer of all time. Kid Chocolate was the first Cuban world champion in the history of professional boxing. In 1994, he was inducted into the " International Boxing Hall of Fame".
