Kid Howard

Avery "Kid" Howard ( born April 22, 1908 in New Orleans, Louisiana, † March 18, 1966 in New Orleans) was an American trumpeter and singer of the New Orleans Jazz.

Kid Howard began as a teenager, first playing drums, then switched to cornet and eventually the trumpet after he played with Chris Kelly. In New Orleans, he was a member in the 1920s, the Eureka Brass Band, Allen 's Brass Band, and the Tuxedo Brass Band. He also led in 1930 own formations; his band then played at the funeral of Buddy Petit. From 1938 to 1943 he worked in the orchestra of the Palace Theatre; Emerged in 1943 recordings with clarinetist George Lewis. In 1946 he directed the original Zenith Brass Band, then worked in the next few years only in local bands. In 1952, he starred again with Lewis, with whom he worked until 1961, and with Kid Sheik Cola. The quality of his last recordings with Lewis suffered but among his alcohol problems with which to contend hatte.1961 he fell ill and he had to leave Lewis' band; after his recovery, he headed back to their normal formation until 1965 and recorded several albums. He then appeared at Preservation Hall and other locations in New Orleans.
